Stanley Wilson

Stanley Wilson was born May 4th, 1933 in Danville, Kentucky and moved to Texas at the age of 13. He started his rodeo career in 1957 at the age of 25, which was an age many considered too old to start riding rough stock. Stanley was a member of the S.R.A., I.R.A. and the R.C.A., which now is the P.R.C.A.

Bareback riding was his best event although he also rode bulls. Stanley and a couple fellow cowboys hired a pilot who would fly them to three and sometimes four rodeos a week for a good many years, most of which were all in Texas.

Although he won many rodeos and rode many famous bucking horses his greatest personal satisfaction came in 1978 at the age of 45 when he won the O.T.R.C. Finals and Championship in the Bareback riding. Stanley went on to the Finals the next year and in 1980 he hung up his rigging for good.

Even today Stanley will say, “But in my -minds eye I still ride one now and then.”
