Monty Penney won or placed in many major and minor rodeos across Texas. He retired for ten years, but came out of retirement to travel and compete in bull riding with his son. Monty’s rodeo titles include CRA Average Finals Winner (1970); Cowtown Bull Riding Champion (1977); and Mesquite Championship Rodeo Bull Riding Champion (1990, 1993). He had major wins in Fort Worth (1974), Greeley (1974), Lufkin (1974, 1992), Bandera (1990), and Greenville, S.C. (1977), Pretty Prairie, Kansas (1972), Crockett, Texas (1973), Refugio, Texas (1992), and 1st round San Antonio, Texas (1995).
He qualified for the CRA (1969, 1970); OTRCA (1989); and Texas Circuit Finals (1990, 1992, 1993). Monty judged rodeos nationwide, including three WPRA Finals; the Indian NFR; and the PBR Texas Stadium.
He was Bull Riding Director of the Texas Circuit (1995-2001) and Wrangler Circuit Series Champion Bull Rider (1992, 1993).
