Hailing from Matador, Texas, Tutt began riding and roping at an early age. His first big win was the AJRA World Championship in calf roping at age 15. Tutt was Southwest Region Calf Roping Champion while on the Western Texas College Rodeo Team. While attending Eastern New Mexico University, he was a member of the NIRA National Champion Team and won the Southwest Region Steer Wrestling Champion (both 1974), and was All Around Champion (1975). Tutt joined the PRCA in 1976. In 1978, he qualified for the NFR and was Texas Circuit Steer Wrestling Champion. He also qualified for the NFSR in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1991. Tutt is a mentor and a great horseman who continues to give back to rodeo in a variety of ways.
