Buck Taylor

Star of Texas

Legendary screen actor and acclaimed western artist Buck Taylor resides on a ranch along the Brazos River in Young County, Texas.   The son of beloved actor Dub Taylor, Buck was born in Los Angeles in 1938.  He achieved early recognition as a nationally ranked gymnast and was also awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute while still enrolled at Hollywood High School.  After completing his education, Buck enlisted in the United States Navy.  Upon discharge from the service, he embarked upon an acting career that now spans more than sixty years.  His extensive credits in episodic television began in the late 1950s when he appeared in numerous western series of that era. This culminated in his joining the cast of “Gunsmoke”, the longest-running   western series in American television history, for the final eight years of its historic twenty-year run. Buck will forever be remembered as the able and honorable gunsmith and part-time deputy of Dodge City, Newly O’Brien.

Following “Gunsmoke” Buck distinguished himself on the big screen for several decades in movies such as “Tombstone”, “Gettysburg”, “Cowboys and Aliens” and the Academy Award-nominated  “Hell or High Water”.  Television audiences have most recently celebrated his success in “Yellowstone”.

While acting, he has simultaneously achieved wide acclaim as an accomplished western artist whose work honoring the western lifestyle and America’s frontier heritage has captivated legions of fans. His watercolors have been used for official rodeo posters throughout the United States and he continues to be thrilled when he has a good horse beneath him, a good loop swinging over him, and a calf’s heels just ahead of him.
