Sid Steiner, a fourth generation Texan, was born December 8, 1974. He has always carried an energetic philosophy with him in daily life which forged his highly competitive nature. Whether competing at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, wakeboarding at a pro tournament, or working cattle on the family’s 10,000 acre ranch near Bastrop, Texas, Sid puts total effort in every situation.
His peers branded him “Sid Rock” for his unique and colorful blend of clothing fashions and hairstyle in 2000 at the NFR Rodeo fans quickly learned he competed with skill to win while doing it with excitement and style. In 2000, Sid placed in the money seven out of the 10 go-rounds at the NFR. Sid’s enthusiasm in 2000 was a crowd pleaser, leaving fans with a renewed vigor in one of America’s favorite sports.
In 2002, rodeo fans were treated to one of the best years in NFR steer wrestling history. Sid placed in the money eight of 10 rounds, won the average and was crowned as the World Champion Steer Wrestler.
A distinct rebel in the spirit of showmanship, Sid was sought for daily interviews throughout the 2000 and 2002 NFR in Las Vegas by ESPN and 48 Hours. Whether he was riding his Harley Davidson around Las Vegas or competing in the rodeo, the media found this new twist in America’s cowboy legacy very real and exciting. “Sid Rock” earned his reputation in the next generation of rodeo showmen.
Tommy Steiner, Sid’s deceased grandfather who is a former PRCA stock contractor and member of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, was known throughout the business as a proven showman. “I guess you could say, I’m carrying my granddad’s showmanship to the newest rodeo generation,” Sid said. “I know he would be proud.”
The Steiner family has been steadfast in the very foundation and success of professional rodeo as entertainment, Sid’s father, Bobby, won the world championship bull riding title in 1973, while his mother Joleen competed in barrel racing at several NFRs. In the Steiner family tradition of entertainment, Sid’s brother Tommy Shane is a nationally known recording artist.
Sid is married to Jamie Steiner, a barrel racer and competitor as well at the NER. They have two children, a daughter, Steely Jayd and son, Rocker Shane. Today, Sid is all about raising his family plus making his professional and competitive efforts known within the Texas real estate market in and around Austin.
