Sammy was a native of Brazos County, a TAMU graduate, lived in Kurten, Texas with his wife, Carolyn.
SCRC started its own breeding program and now raises its own bucking stock. They own and manage SCRC, the family cow/calf business, Catalena Hatters, and the Texas Rose Boutique. In 1974, Circle 5 Rodeo Co., later became Sammy Catalena Rodeo Company SCRC supplied stock to rodeos including Denver, Phoenix, Kansas City, Baton Rouge, Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Las Vegas. In 1990, SCRC developed a precision drill team of 25 cowgirls wearing matching outfits riding paint horses. In 1996, SCRC produced “Sammy Catalena’s Caribbean Wild West Tour” with rodeo performances in Aruba and Curacao 2001 – SCRC’s ‘Skoal Titanic’ – Best Bull/3rd round at NFR. 2007 – ‘South Point’ – Best Bull/5th round at NFR
