Red Lightning was an eighteen hundred pound brindle, bald-faced bull whose rodeo career started in 1978 until he was retired in 1988. In 1978 he was out over 50 times at more than 30 rodeos without a qualified ride. He was voted by the top bull riders as the best bucking bull for the year and the best bucking bull at the National Finals Rodeo. In 1979 Denny Flynn achieved the highest score ever recorded, at that time, of 98 points in Palestine, Illinois. Red Lightning, with his seven NFR selections, will be remembered as one of the best and most honest bucking bulls ever.
