The oldest son of Neal and Kay Gay has never sought the spotlight, although he’s been in it many times. Pete Gay’s strength has always been as a cowboy whose vast knowledge of both sides of the chutes is indispensable and hard to duplicate. At the 1,000 acre Mesquite Rodeo Ranch, Pete can do it all. From rounding up livestock for the weekend rodeo…to doctoring and branding them…to hauling them… You know the job will be done and done right. His versatility is evident in critical roles at the weekly Mesquite Championship Rodeo. Need a chute boss? Find Pete. Need a flankman in the bucking events, or a pickup man in the bronc riding? He’s your man. He might not say a lot, and you’ll never hear him brag. But bull or bronc riders at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo needing a tip on the bucking tendencies of their mount couldn’t go to a better source. Pete is quiet spoken and as willing to work behind the chutes as in front of them. He’s been one of the building blocks that has helped the Mesquite Championship Rodeo become what it is today.
