Johnny Mellon

Born July 17, 1906 in Bell County, Texas Johnny (Shirtail) Mellon spent his entire life in the Central Texas area. He started his rodeo career riding saddle bronc at Belton, Texas first rodeo in 1924. He produced rodeos in Central Texas from 1943 until 1951 with the Triangle Bell Rodeo Company. He won the Old Man’s Roping at Georgetown, Texas in 1958.

Johnny Mellon’s greatest win was his friendship and smile for his fellow man. Johnny passed away fellow man. Johnny passed away March 17, 1968, after another of his favorite days spent with horses and kids.
