Jim was raised on a farm and ranch in Ponca City, OK. He currently lives in Oplin, Texas with his wife, Laurie where they farm and ranch and have a real estate business. While Jim did compete in tie down roping, steer wrestling, and team roping, steer roping was his specialty. He retired from steer roping in 2017, but still enjoys traveling and competing in team roping.
