Jim Smith started Smith Brothers Productions in the late 1970s, providing rodeo and roping steers throughout the U.S. and South America. He contracted winning animals to many prestigious events, including the NFR in Las Vegas, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and Windy Ryon Memorial Roping. As a boy, Jim was active in 4H and FFA, and won many rodeo awards. He attended Midwestern State University on rodeo scholarships, got his PRCAC card in the early 1980s, and competed in calf roping, bull dogging, and steer roping at major rodeos, including San Antonio, Fort Worth, Odessa, Pecos, Huntsville, San Angelo, and Guymon.
