James Robert Cavender, founder of Cavender’s stores, ensured that his company support western heritage by sponsoring over 400 rodeos, bull ridings, youth fairs, ranch rodeos, special needs rodeos and special events each year. January through March brings the big 3 Texas rodeos and rodeo season is a busy time. Cavender’s is proud to sponsor and exhibit at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo, Forth Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Cavender’s also sponsors the historic Stockyards Championship Rodeo . James started the tradition of being philanthropic in the communities where Cavender has stores and by strongly supporting the sport of rodeo and the western lifestyle. In 1987 Cavender’s became the highest volume boot retailer in America; and in 1989 Cavender’s was awarded the first ever “Western Retailer of the Year” presented by the Dallas Western Market.
