Entering her first rodeo at the age of 3, Jackie Bob Riggs Cox was born to rodeo. Her mother was Ora Altizer and father, calf roper Jack Riggs. Because of the drought, Jackie Bob didn’t get to enter many junior rodeos, just the ones nearby, but she ran barrels at the GRA level against such greats as Wanda Bush, Jane Mayo, and Sherry Combs while rodeoing with her parents. Jackie Bob was 11 years old when she won the barrel race at the prestigiousWest of the Pecos RCA Rodeo for the first time in 1965. She repeated the win again in 1968 and 1969. Jackie Bob junior rodeoed the most in 1972 winning 4th in the All Around and was the Reserve Champion Pole Bender. She attended Texas Tech University majoring in math and doing a little rodeoing, running barrels and breakaway roping. In 1975, Jackie Bob was crowned the Texas Tech Rodeo Queen, went on to win Miss Rodeo Texas and was the First Runner-up to Miss Rodeo America. Jackie Bob married George Cox and continued to rodeo, running barrels and training futurity barrel horses. She qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in 1986. She also qualified for the Texas Circuit Finals 9 times. Jackie Bob served for many years as a Director of the Barrel Futurities of America. Jackie Bob is active training barrel horses and young riders on their ranch near Del Rio, Texas.
