Houston Rodeo

Rodeo Events & Organizations

With roots as far back as 1932, when the organization was founded, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has since grown to become the world’s largest livestock show, rodeo and charitable organization of its kind. The Show is dedicated to benefiting youth, supporting education, and facilitating better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation.

Each year, more than 27,000 livestock and horse show entries are recorded, representing 4-H and FFA members from across the state of Texas, traveling to Houston to exhibit their prized livestock each year. Professional livestock breeders and ranchers also travel from across the country to the nation’s 4th largest city, all vying for the title of Houston Champion.

RODEOHOUSTON® showcases the finest rodeo athletes in a bracket tournament-style format. A winner is announced every night in front of crowds averaging 64,000 fans at each of the 20 Rodeo performances. With $2.04 million in added money, 1.3 million fans, and 360 of the top cowboys and cowgirls, this is “Rodeo, Reimagined.”

As a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is committed to helping students reach their maximum potential through scholarships and educational programing. Since the Show began, more than $330 million has been committed to scholarships, research, endowments, calf scramble participants, junior show exhibitors, School Art participants, and other educational youth programs. Other Houston community support helps organizations involved in theater, museums, art, opera, wildlife and more.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is as diverse as the city of Houston, offering family-fun entertainment, action-packed rodeos, stellar musical entertainment, competitive arenas for livestock, and educational opportunities. Backed by more than 28,000 volunteers, this organization is known as the “Show with a Heart.”
