Freddie Lynn “Gomer” Greer was born in Brandon, Texas. He grew up in Dallas and at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, which became the most successful TV rodeos in the Country.
Freddie was a talented high school athlete and received full scholarship offers for football…but, rodeo won out and a memorable career began.
Greer had the highest marked ride in the bull riding at both Cheyenne and Denver which wasn’t touched for years, a 92! He made four trips to the NFR in Oklahoma City in the bull riding in 1966 through 1969. This accomplishment is a source of pride for his son, Guy Lynn Greer.
In Freddie’s later years he positively influenced many lives as he would speak with church groups of his experiences in the sport of rodeo and his deep love for God.
