Foy and Jody Reynolds

Empty Saddles

Raised in Texas and during his early rodeo career Foy competed in every event. Due to some injuries incurred he later specialized in calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. As a young man just getting started in rodeo, he spent a lot of time at the Buck Steiner Ranch honing his craft. He also spent a winter at the home of Royce Sewalt learning the finer points of calf roping and to be a consistent winner.

In 1946 at the age of 19, Foy set the steer wrestling arena record of 5.3 seconds at Madison Square Garden which he held for many years. In 1958 he started the Rocking R Rodeo company with his wife Jody, and they produced RCA rodeos from Homestead Florida to Gerry New York. Foy had previously produced rodeos in the Central Texas area.  Foy was especially known for his great bucking bulls. He became known as the “Bull Man”. He also had some great bucking horses and had bucking stock at the National Finals Rodeo in Dallas, Texas in 1960. In later years Foy also produced PRCA permit session bull ridings at his Rocking R Ranch in Bonifay Florida.

Jody Reynolds was born in Borger, Texas and later moved to Dublin, Texas. She performed her trick riding acts with the Everett Colburn Rodeo Company there. Jody was an RCA trick rider and performed at many rodeos in Texas and across the country including the rodeos at Madison Square Garden and at the Boston Garden.

Jody also performed internationally in the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Canada. Jody was known for her unique fire jump act which she performed while doing a Roman Stand on her horse Badger. Jody was also an RCA Rodeo Secretary and timer working many rodeos in Texas.
