Ernest Beakley

Trailblazer

Ernest was born September 1, 1931 in Carrizo Springs to Finics and Clara Beakley. In 1936, his family moved to Center Point, Texas where Ernest grew up and attended Center Point schools. There he honed his drive and dedication that lead to a successful rodeo career.

At 15, Ernest entered his first rodeo at the famous Crider’s Arena. with the encouragement of Wilton Crider, Ernest progressed to larger, more challenging competitions. In 1954, Ernest joined the Rodeo Cowboys Association and began competing in rodeos that were approved by the RCA. His RCA card was 4912.

Ernest placed at most major rodeos in the United States and Canada, including Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Denver, Odessa, New York, Boston, Cheyenne and Calgary. During his travels with well-known rodeo cowboys and cowgirls, Ernes mad lifelong friends.

After his retirement from Cruther Resources Corporation Ernest moved to Bandera to be close to his family and many friends from his childhood and rodeo days.

Ernest was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2008 he served as honoree at the Cowboy Capital Rodeo Association’s Memorial Weekend PRCA Rodeo in Bandera.
