Joel Edwin “Eddie” Boren was born March 24, 1930 and raised in Belton, Texas. Belton being a rodeo town influenced Eddie to start his career as an early teenager. He continued to ride his entire life except during the period of time he was serving in Korea with the U.S. Army. In his later years Eddie was known for encouraging younger cowboys to improve their riding skills as he shared his knowledge with them. Eddie belonged to the R.C.A….P.R.C.A. and later the Old Timers Rodeo Cowboys Association.
All rodeo events interested Eddie but bull riding and bareback riding were his specialties. Eddie rodeoed all over the United States, but two of his most meaningful rodeos were the Dallas Fair in 1946 and the Brenham, Texas rodeo in 1956 where he won an All-Around Saddle.
On August 19, 1978 at an O.T.R.C.A rodeo in Snook Eddie completed rides in the saddle bronc, bareback and bull riding. After completing his bull ride Eddie was injured when the bull stepped on him. He died in route to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas
