Clarence Monroe "Monte" Elms

Borne in Eagle Pass, Texas May 13, 1950 Monte grew up in Salado. Montie centered his first rodeo in ’64 in the bull riding. 1967 he entered the bareback riding at Corsicana High School rodeo and placed 3rd. After high school he started entering the bareback and bull riding at amateur rodeo throughout Texas and other states working both events. At 20 he decided to specialize in the bareback riding.

He joined the PRCA in 1978-split the average, placed in every go-round of the Lone Star Circuit Finals. During his years in professional rodeo he won many major rodeos. Some of those are: Cow Palace in San Fransico: Fort Madison, Iowa: Springdale, Arkansas and Jasper. Pecos ’79, ’82 & ’85 and place at it 5 or 6 other years.

At the age of 40 at the Houston Astrodome Rodeo he decided it was time to quit riding. He started his judging career after contesting. He judges the NFR in bareback in 1981. Intercollegiate National Finals in 1991, 2002 and 2003 as well as several High School Finals. He holds a PRCA gold card and a reserve official judging all over the U.S.
