Event: Barrel Racing
Special Agreement, a brown gelding, was born in 1981 and raised and trained by John Dewitt of Kilgore, Texas. The horse foundered and his future became uncertain. John contacted Deb and Bubba Mohon and Deb knew when she saw the colt that he was worth taking home. No money ever exchanged hands. His name, Special Agreement, says it all. Through the help of corrective shoeing and tender loving care, Brown was able to recover and the rest is history. He was so even tempered and athletic training him to run barrels came naturally. He excelled quickly and handled the pressure of running at futurities and rodeos alike.
The partnership between Deb and Brown was special. They were a powerful duo at the futurity and derby events as well as the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association. Their NFR debut came in 1996 and Brown made an unprecedented 110 consecutive runs at the Thomas & Mack Arena. Many rounds were won in those 11 consecutive years- as well as being named the 1990 Reserve Champion of the World, voted NFR Horse with the most Heart in 1994, and named the 1994 AQHA Horse of the Year.
When Brown’s career came to and end, the was retired and lived the rest of his life at the Mohon Ranch. In 2003 he was present when Deb was laid to rest after a riding accident. He conducted himself as a gentleman with class knowing the ________. Brown was a great horse and part of a winning combination with more than $700,000 in earnings. He was lovingly interned at the Mohon Ranch in 2007.
