Billy began working for Jack Ratjen shortly after Jack acquired the Kowbell Arena in Mansfield, Texas, and remained there for about 30 years. He handled, fed, and sorted the livestock and penned stock for all the rodeos, jackpots, and event practices. Billy was a “top hand” in every respect – an encourager, mentor, and friend to many, helping kids get the rodeo careers headed in the right direction. Billy competed in calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, hazing, the double-mugging event, and was a pick-up man. Billy was a humble, good man with a strong presence that made him an excellent father, mentor, and friend.
