Becky Bland Brown

Women Contestant

Becky Bland Brown and her twin brother John were born in Rapid City, South Dakota August 26, 1952 to Rosemary and R.L. Bland. In 1956 the Bland family moved to Ozona, Texas. At an early age Becky and her siblings were in love with horses and the outdoors. It wasn’t long before “Big Daddy” built an arena for all the kids to start learning to rope and ride. When Becky was 6 years old she started going to the local horse shows and rodeos.

From age 11 to 15 Becky was in the top 5 for the year in the barrels, optional race, and optional roping. She won numerous event buckles and all around awards at several junior rodeos. In 1962 Becky and her brother Rex were awarded the Bob Crosby Award at the AJRA (American Junior Rodeo Association) Finals, given every year to an AJRA member with good moral character.

Becky was voted Miss AJRA in 1970, she did a lot of parades, TV and radio interviews to promote rodeo and the AJRA organization. That same year she won third in the All Around title and was fourth in the optional roping event of the AJRA.

In 1970, Becky competed for Miss Rodeo Texas and won first Runner-Up and the horsemanship competition.

After high school Becky attended Tarleton State College for 3 years and 1 year at Hardin-Simmons University where she graduated in 1974. She had a very successful college rodeo career. As a freshman, Becky was All Around or Runner up at each of the fall rodeos which gave her team a 540 point lead for the spring rodeos. She was unable to compete in the spring but helped the team win the Region title and advance to the NIRA (National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association) Finals in Bozeman, Montana. Her sophomore year she won the All Around at Tarleton, Sul Ross, ENMU and runner up at Texas Tech. She was the runner up goat tying champion in the southwest region in 1972 and 1973 and got to compete at Nationals in Bozeman.

After college Becky began teaching school and coaching girls’ athletics in Lampasas, Texas.

Becky is married to Terry Brown who is a former PRCA team roper and Texas Circuit Finals Winner. They raised a son Lafe and a daughter Blandi whom have received many awards in the AJRA and high school rodeos. Terry and Becky have a ranch in Trent, Texas and the help run their family business at Cal-Tex Feed yard.
